There's just no reason to spend $1k on threadripper.
The i9-7980XE is $2k and literally no better than the 8700K in gaming applications.
If I'm willing to spend the $1k, is there anything better?
At this point, I'm planning just to air cool overclock the 8700K, but, that requires finding one.
My uses: 4K video rendering/encoding in premiere, some Civ, and some destiny2 (probably) in 4K ultra
Planning on a 1080Ti and 32GB DDR4-3200
