One of the best known Russian esports teams, Team Empire is a multi-gaming organization out of Moscow, Russia. Team Empire’s philosophy is “‘[the] formation, support, and development of talented pro-gamers of Europe and the CIS” and they seem to apply this to every game that is taken on. Founded in 2004, TE has had rosters in over a half dozen gaming disciplines including CS:GO, DotA 2, Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Call of Duty, Heroes of the Storm, League of Legends, and Battlefield 3.
DotA 2
Transitioning to DotA 2 in 2011, Team Empire has had to date 34 players that have played on their roster. With that many players it’s no wonder they have picked up some with household names such as the Russian born Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarov and the Invoker maining Roman “Resolut1on” Feminou, contributing to the fact that Team Empire is known as one of the dominant teams in the CIS region. TE has many tournament placings under their name as a consequence to this including 7th at The International 2017, 1st at the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1, and 1st in the StarLadder StarSeries 11. Although they do not win many international events, Team Empire has shown over the years that they can compete with the rest.
Starcraft 2
Since Team Empire’s goals have always been to develop the Europe and CIS esports regions, it comes as a surprise to know that some players on their Starcraft 2 roster have originated from Korea. The most recognized player from this is Kim Dong “viOlet” Hwen who was also known as the first Starcraft player to receive a U.S visa for being a professional athlete. Other noteworthy players that have served on TE’s roster include the King of Random, Arthur “Nerchic” Blech and the King of the North, John “NaNiwa” Lucchesi. Team Empire also operates a StarCraft 2 academy bearing their name in order to help out local Russian StarCraft 2 players.
Along with Starcraft 2 and DotA 2, Team Empire’s League of Legends roster has found a lot of success in the recent years. Although they are most famous for first picking up the original Moscow 5 league roster. This roster included Alexey “Alex Ich” Ichetovkin, Evgeng “Darien” Mazaer, Evgeny “Genja” Andryushin, Danil “Diamonprox” Reshetnikov, and Edward “Edward” Abgoryon, all of which became known as the most terrifying league roster in the European region. After Team Empire’s failure to make the 2017 LCL Summer Split, losing in promotions to TORNADO ROX, they currently reside in the challenger league. In early 2016 TE attempted to make a splash in the CS:GO scene by signing new up-and-coming squad Rebels. They were able to pick up a 2nd place placement at the 2016 CIS Minor Championship in Cologne but The roster unfortunately did not last long after that. Even with a brief pickup of former HellRaisers player Emil “kUcheR” Akhundw, the roster left the organization in June 2016. One of Team Empire’s most recent experiments involved a two year stint (2014-2016) where they operated a competitive Hearthstone team. While they did not gain any substantial tournament victories under their belt during this time period, they were able to sign on the 2016 Hearthstone World Champion Pavel “Pavel” Beltyukov for a short Duration.
