Need to replace aging macbook pro

  • Total budget and country of purchase: Trying to go cheap, preferably under $500

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Do not want a 2 in 1 form factor, specs for money is most important

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important unless the laptop is obnoxiously thick. I don't need a gaming laptop

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, willing to consider chromebooks

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not smaller than 13 inches

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. None, I have a pretty powerful gaming desktop. I am looking for a laptop that will be snappy running microsoft office and doing web browsing

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Require an ssd and at least 8 gb RAM. Next most important factors are build quality and backlit keyboard

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Just trying to see what's out there to replace my 7 year old macbook pro that's starting to die. I just need something for college student tasks as I have a nice desktop but can't carry it with me.
